Georgia
We drove in from the border and immediately we were met with the beautiful landscapes that Georgia is known for. Endless views of mountains and trees… Georgia was already making a good first impression and it was getting us even more excited.
Our plans for Georgia had started out somewhat vague. The previous day we had sat at the border in Turkey, praying for accommodation for our time in Georgia… and thankfully, after several calls and connections, the Lord made a way and we were received by a local church not too far from where we would be receiving training from South African friends.
The Lord has never failed to disappoint us but once again we were struck by the power of prayer and how He had miraculously made a way for us.
During the 2 weeks in Georgia, we didn’t do the sort of ministry we are accustomed to that normally requires full days of work. The majority of our time was spent doing training that our South African friends organised for us to do on the Spiritual gifts and on Re-Entry, especially because our time on Global is slowly reaching its end. We were able to break down how to practically apply the gifts and how they should be used…and this too provided so much clarity for us.
Although we were training, we also had a lot of free time, allowing us to explore the city of Tbilisi to its fullest. We managed to get a hold of transport cards that allowed us to travel freely on public transport for the duration of the time we were there…so getting to where we wanted to go was never a problem. In fact, most of our nights after training the team would hop on a random train and go exploring around the city.
The rainy days we experienced there were perfect for coffee outings and snug clothing. Contrary to a lot of the hot weather we experienced this year, we thoroughly enjoyed the European weather.
Something else worth mentioning is that we had an additional team member during our time in Georgia. Ben, one of Abigail’s close friends from back home, came to visit for 2 weeks and quickly integrated into the team. He joined in for all the team’s tasks and even joined the food team, which he got into the groove of quite quickly.
Having Ben with us was such a blessing…he brought a breath of fresh air and gave us reasons to laugh every day. Getting glimpses of home is always such a treat for the whole team and we were sad to say goodbye to him as we headed off to Turkey.
The weekend before heading off to our next country, we decided to have a girls’ and boys’ weekend, where the boys and girls split up for a few days. Nyasa our leader took some time off for herself to get some rest while she went to house sit for someone that was out of town and the boys headed off for an adventurous hike in the snowy Georgian mountains, while the girls stayed behind to rest.
Our time in Georgia didn’t feel like enough, but we enjoyed experiencing its culture, its people and its amazing natural landscapes. Georgia was certainly a spoil for the team!
Join us as we pray for Georgia. Due to the war happening in Russia, a lot of hate has crept into the country, especially towards the Russians. Russians that come into the country experience a lot of prejudice and we want to pray that the Lord will free Georgian people from the hate that has made its home amongst their people.
